Silence in L-space

Shadows that were not simply shadows loomed ahead of them. The figure of Proper Dave, now animated by a swarm of Vashta Nerada composed of what had formerly been Dave's flesh, continued to slouch roughly towards them from behind, blocking off further access to the local teleport and to the Node with Donna's face.
"Well, that's a no on teleporting out of here safely, then," said the Doctor.
"Any ideas, Doctor?" asked Dr. Song. "I suppose I could make another escape route through the stacks with my sidearm, but..."
"But we have no clue as to whether there are more swarms in the other corridors," continued the Doctor. "Besides, it would be a shame to destroy all those books...."
The Doctor's expression grew vague as he became lost in thought, even as the shadows continued to close in. Then, suddenly, his face and figure grew animated again, practically vibrating with inspiration. "Of course! All these books! Now if we can just access L-space in time...
"L-space?" inquired Dr. Song.
"Yes, L-space! Knowledge is power, right?" Dr. Song nodded, fascinated despite the imminent threat. "And power is just energy expended over time at a certain rate. Now, what does Einstein tell us energy is equivalent to?"
"Matter, or mass," responded Song automatically.
"And what does mass do to space, then?"
"I really don't see what this has to do with...oh. It bends it, doesn't it?"
"Exactly!" exclaimed the Doctor. "And therefore, when you concentrate as much knowledge in one place as you have here in the Library, it's equivalent to enough mass to bend space... and time, yes, don't forget time... any which way you could possibly want. Libraries and bookstores are really just more genteel versions of black holes. In fact, they're all connected to each other, via..."
"L-space," supplied Dr. Song.
"Of course," said the Doctor, "there's stlll the small matter of accessing it quickly enough that the Vashta Nerada can't follow us through. Usually it's only the most dedicated of librarians and bookstore proprietors that know its byways and portals." He started rummaging through his coat.
"Now if I can just find that banana..."
